Saccone’s Legislation to Safeguard Children from Online Sexual Predators Passes House
5/24/2017
HARRISBURG – Acting to protect children of Pennsylvania from online sexual predators, the House passed legislation authored by Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Washington/Allegheny) on May 23. The legislation, House Bill 561, which received support of both Democrats and Republicans, would make permanent an important tool to locate child predators.

In 2014, Saccone introduced landmark legislation that the General Assembly unanimously enacted which gave the state attorney general and district attorneys the authority to use administrative subpoenas to identify information pertaining to child sex predators transmitting child pornography.

“When that legislation was passed, it held a sunset clause declaring that it would expire on Dec. 31, 2017,” said Saccone. “This legislation has been a vital tool for law enforcement and makes their jobs easier. By every measure, this legislation has been highly successful, resulting in hundreds of child sex predators taken off our streets. We’re now calling on the Senate and the governor to make this law permanent.”

The bill now advances to the Senate.
