Simmons Changes Committee Assignment for 2017-18 Session
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) today announced that he has been named to serve on a new committee in the House of Representatives during the 2017-18 legislation session. Simmons’ appointment to the influential House Insurance Committee is in addition to his current membership on the House Children and Youth, House Human Services and House Liquor Control committees.
“I welcome my new committee assignment with enthusiasm,” said Simmons. “The Insurance Committee does important work that directly impacts Pennsylvania consumers.”
The House Insurance Committee helps oversee the Insurance Department and ensure any legislation running through the House that pertains to insurance matters and the impact on consumers is studied with extreme care. The committee also reviews any changes made by the federal government with respect to ObamaCare and those potential impacts on the state.
Committees are where legislative proposals get their initial review by lawmakers. Every bill that is introduced is referred to at least one committee and must be approved by the members of that committee before it can go to the full House for consideration.
