Walsh Joins Colleagues in Passing a Responsible Budget
4/4/2017
HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Walsh (R-Westmoreland) today issued the following statement in response to the House passing a no tax increase, Fiscal Year 2017-18 state budget:

“The House budget passed today puts Pennsylvania on track to reinventing itself and returning government to its core functions. I’m pleased to be part of a House of Representatives that puts Pennsylvania’s fiscal house back in order.

“This balanced budget reduces grant line items, administrative line items and accepts the governor’s proposal for consolidation of state agencies. It contains no new borrowing and no gimmicks to be balanced.

“While the proposal spends less than last year, it invests $100 million more in basic education and $25 million more in special education. Early education also receives additional funding with $20 more for PreK Counts and $5 million more for Head Start.

“We also are planning for the future by creating the Pennsylvania Endowment Account that would have sustainable and recurring revenue options to fund items without increasing the debt as the governor proposes. This account also could allow us to accelerate pension and current debt payments, which will save money in the long run.”
