O’Neill Appointed to PHEAA Board
1/12/2017
HARRISBURG – Rep. Bernie O’Neill (R-Bucks) has been appointed to serve on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), the nonprofit student aid organization. As one of eight House appointees to the 20-member PHEAA board, O’Neill will be responsible for helping to oversee how the college grants and loan programs are administered.

“Hundreds of families in the 29th District and across the state rely on the financial assistance that PHEAA provides,” O’Neill said. “Part of our work as board members is to ensure the organization stays on sound fiscal ground so we can assure it can fulfill its purpose of helping families send their children to college.”

PHEAA oversees educational funding by offering grants and loans, including Stafford loans, Keystone Best loans for both students and parents, and private loans to assist with college costs.

In the 29th District, the agency provided more than $1.7 million in state grants to 652 recipients during the 2015-16 college term.

“I am looking forward to working with this important financial assistance organization to ensure our students and their families have access to affordable funding for their higher education,” O’Neill said.

PHEAA serves millions of students and thousands of schools nationally through its state grant program, loan guarantees, loan servicing, financial aid processing, outreach and other student aid programs.
