Reopen Butler County: Lawmakers Urge Governor to Move County to ‘Yellow Phase’
HARRISBURG – A bicameral group of Butler County legislators recently submitted a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf urging him to move the southwest county from the very restricted red phase to the beginning-to-open yellow phase.
The legislative contingent is disappointed that the people of southwestern Pennsylvania – an area that has done an excellent job mitigating the coronavirus – are not yet trusted to make the right decisions for their own health and that of their families, friends and neighbors. The curve has been flattened in Butler County. There have been only four new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the past four days.
In a letter signed by 10 members of the House and Senate representing Butler County, the contingent wrote: “Millions of people across our Commonwealth find themselves unemployed – hard-working people who have gone without a paycheck for months and many without any unemployment compensation. People need to be able to put food on the table. A delay in action can be devastating for our residents.
“We should have a better process in place for areas like ours that are stuck under the stay-at-home order indefinitely. It is great to see some of our Commonwealth’s counties will soon be able to resume a normal lifestyle. How about the counties in southwestern Pennsylvania? We urge the governor to move us to the ‘yellow phase’ now.”
Signing the letter were Reps. Marci Mustello, Aaron Bernstine, Tim Bonner, Lee James, Jim Marshall, Daryl Metcalfe and Jeff Pyle, and Sens. Scott Hutchinson, Joe Pittman and Elder Vogel.
