Causer Comments on Passage of Stabilizing Budget
HARRISBURG – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) issued the following statement regarding passage of a partial state budget for the first five months of the 2020-21 fiscal year.
“The House adopted a partial budget today to provide some level of certainty and stability as we reopen our state’s economy. By funding our budget for a period of five months, we have the time to get a better picture of the economic impacts of COVID-19 and assess how it impacts our tax collections and how our economy responds to reopening.
“Recognizing the importance of getting our students not just back to school but back to the classroom this fall, this partial budget does include 100% funding for all elements of preK-12 education, as well as higher education.”
The total spending in this partial budget is $25.8 billion. The majority of line items are funded at approximately 42% of the funding they received in the current fiscal year. The plan does not rely on any new or increased taxes.
