Owlett Issues Statement on 2020-21 State Budget
HARRISBURG – Following House passage of a $25.8 billion partial-year budget, Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) issued the following statement:
“The state budget is one of the most important responsibilities of the General Assembly in any year, but it is especially important right now as we continue trying to navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic. While a short-term budget is not ideal, it is necessary to provide some stability over the next few months as we wait for the delayed collection of state income taxes in mid-July and work to get a better handle on how the pandemic has impacted our overall revenue collections. We are also awaiting further information about additional assistance from the federal government.
“While we are likely to face some difficult funding decisions later this year, there is no question about our commitment to our schools. That’s why this budget includes a full 12 months of funding for our schools at all levels. It is vital to get our students back to their classrooms this fall.”
Aside from level-funding for education, Owlett said the majority of line items in the budget are being allocated at approximately 42% of the funding in the current year’s budget.
