House Approves Responsible Short-Term Budget, Topper Says
HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives today approved a $25.8 billion short-term budget. In response to the action, House Appropriations Committee member Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) issued the following statement:
“This was certainly an unusual budget that fits these very uncertain times. The past few months have been very difficult for all Pennsylvanians and the five-month budget we approved today reflects that. This budget provides funding that is at equal funding compared to the 2019-20 fiscal year budget. It is essentially a spending freeze, while providing funding to core sectors of government through November.
“This short-term budget gives the Legislature more time to fully comprehend the economic ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic and the governor’s business closures. It gives us the flexible to reexamine the budget throughout the course of the year as our revenues become more clear. Passing this budget was the responsible action to take.”
