House Votes to Partially Terminate Governor’s Emergency Declaration
HARRISBURG – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) today announced that the House of Representatives has voted to terminate the portion of the governor’s emergency declaration that has held millions of business owners and employees across the state hostage.
House Resolution 836 would terminate the portion of the governor’s emergency declaration that has allowed him to pick winners and losers among our state’s businesses. Under the resolution, all businesses would have to be treated equally regardless of whether they were deemed life-sustaining or not in the governor’s orders.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Pennsylvania’s economy, and that backbone has been devastated by the governor’s shutdown orders,” said Metzgar. “I am proud to have done, and will continue to do, absolutely everything in my power to support Pennsylvania’s small businesses and get our businesses reopened, our people back to work, and our economy back on track.”
By leaving a portion of the emergency declaration in place, the Commonwealth does not risk the loss of federal COVID-19 emergency funding and allows citizens to get back to work and reopen Pennsylvania’s economy.
“It’s time to fully reopen our state’s economy. We can do it safely. We can and must protect both lives and livelihoods.”
