Topper Issues Statement on Veto of Bill to Allow School Districts to Make Decisions Regarding School Sports, Activites
9/22/2020
BEDFORD – In response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of House Bill 2787 to ensure decisions about school sports and activities, including policies regarding spectators, are made at the local level, Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) issued the following statement:

“I am disappointed the governor has once again acted in a manner that disregards the voice of the people. House Bill 2787 was approved by the House and Senate by veto-proof majorities. Instead of taking that into consideration and allowing local school board members to decide the best course of action for their students and families, the governor is continuing with his ‘go it alone’ mentality.

“It is my hope the House will be called back to Harrisburg as soon as possible to hold a vote to override the veto. I equally hope that those who cast votes in favor of the bill when it was approved in the House and Senate hold firm to their convictions during a veto override vote.”
