Toohil Troubled by Latest Vaccine Snafu
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) issued the following statement regarding the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s announcement that tens of thousands of second doses of the Moderna vaccine were recently administered as first doses by mistake, resulting in a vaccination delay for more than 100,000 Pennsylvania residents.
“The Department of Health is blaming the mistake on miscommunication and it could not have come at a worse time. The state was already playing catch-up. Now, second doses of the Moderna vaccine are being cancelled for thousands of Pennsylvanians because they were already administered.
“Vaccine delays can cost lives, especially with respect to our most vulnerable citizens. We need to get these shots into arms as quickly as possible and not have to deal with one snafu after another.
“That’s why we’re pushing for passage of legislation I am co-sponsoring that would involve the Pennsylvania National Guard in vaccine deployment statewide. Under
House Bill 326, the Guard would set up vaccination sites by region. It has the infrastructure, human capital and logistics to ensure vaccine distribution is both timely and efficient.”
The bill was passed by the House earlier this month and sent to the Senate for consideration.
Toohil reminded residents that the staff at her Hazleton office is available to provide assistance in scheduling a vaccination online.
