House Passes Resolution to Terminate Governor’s COVID-19 Emergency Disaster Declaration, Says White
HARRISBURG – Following the outcome of the May 18 referendum question to end the governor’s unilateral control, the House of Representatives today approved a resolution to terminate the current COVID-19 emergency disaster declaration, announced Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia).
“The governor has renewed the pandemic disaster emergency declaration five times since a COVID-19 disaster emergency was first declared on March 6, 2020,” said White. “During these declarations, businesses have been shut down, education has been compromised and the constitutional rights of our citizens violated.
“We are no longer experiencing an ‘emergency’ as case counts have continued to decline, treatments have improved and vaccines are readily available,” continued White. “It is time to end the emergency declaration.”
Lawmakers are investigating legislative measures to continue portions of
House Resolution 106 that have proved to benefit Pennsylvania and plan to run them as part of the budget process.
“This pandemic was unprecedented in our time and now that we are coming through the other side of it, we can see that changes need to be made. House Resolution 106 is a step in the right direction,” said White.
House Resolution 106 now goes to the Senate for consideration.
