Struzzi Labels 2021-22 Spending Plan ‘Good Budgeting’
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the heels of House passage of Senate Bill 255, the primary piece of legislation in the proposed 2021-22 budget package:
“The budget bill we’ve advanced with bipartisan support would provide much-needed essential services for Pennsylvania in the coming year. It is fiscally responsible, in part through the use of federal dollars received through the American Rescue Plan.
“Its strength also lies in support for education. For the first time in state history, we are spending in excess of $7 billion in Basic Education Funding. Early Childhood Education Funding (Pre-K Counts and Head Start) is being increased by $30 million and Special Education Funding would expand by $50 million. Additionally, Indiana University of Pennsylvania – and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in general – is also in line for a boost in funding.
“This budget protects vulnerable citizens by using federal relief funds to help nursing homes, assisted living and personal care homes. It protects communities by funding two new state police cadet classes and allocating $30 million for violence intervention and prevention.
“In short, it is a great plan for Pennsylvania in the coming year, while also taking into account Pennsylvania’s future.”
