Mercuri: Opportunities Missed to Restore Trust in Elections
6/30/2021
HARRISBURG – Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) issued the following statement regarding the vetoes of House Bill 1300, known as the Voting Rights Protection Act, and election audit provision in the 2021-22 Pennsylvania budget:

“I’m disappointed that Gov. Wolf decided to maintain status quo on the electoral process. This comprehensive bill would have increased access to the polls, enhanced security, created uniformity and restored trust in the system.

“He also reversed course on an agreement he made with the General Assembly as part of the 2021-22 Pennsylvania budget, which set aside $3.1 million for the Auditor General to create a Bureau of Election Audits. The decision to veto is a missed opportunity to create necessary change to restore trust in elections in the Commonwealth. He cannot be trusted now and moving forward.”
