Grove Issues Statement on Wolf’s ID Double Standard
7/16/2021
HARRISBURG – In response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s Department of Labor and Industry requiring Unemployment Compensation (UC) applicants to verify their identity with a government-issued photo ID, State Government Committee Chairman Seth Grove (R-York) issued the following statement:

“The irony of Gov. Tom Wolf’s double standard is absolutely appalling. While I agree with the governor that applicants should prove they are Pennsylvania residents to receive taxpayer-funded UC benefits, the fact the same standard isn’t applied to voting is shameful.

“A few short weeks ago, Wolf vetoed the Voting Rights Protection Act, claiming the measure to require voters show one of many acceptable forms of identification at the polls would disenfranchise voters. Unlike the governor’s new UC ID requirement, the bill would have provided each registered voter with a new updated voter registration identification card and three free identifications. Wolf’s UC ID requirement requires UC claimants to have internet service, have a government-issued photo identification and requires claimants to run all this information through a third-party vendor. Wolf should reevaluate his position on the Pennsylvania Voting Rights Protection Act as his UC ID requirements are more stringent.”
