Grove Announces Hearing on Congressional Redistricting and Census Data Analysis
HARRISBURG – As the House State Government Committee continues to receive input on congressional redistricting from Pennsylvanians, its chairman, Seth Grove (R-York), announced today the committee will hold a hearing in October on the need for districts to be equal and review of the census data demographic changes across the Commonwealth.
“According to law, congressional districts need to have equal populations, or at most, can differ by one person per district. That’s a very strict standard that can make redistricting challenging and confusing,” Grove said. “Expert testifiers will provide their input on this aspect of the map-drawing process.”
The committee will receive input from the following testifiers:

Ilya Shapiro, vice president of the Cato Institute, director of the Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies.
•
Thomas Brunell, professor of political science and program head of political science, public policy and political economy at the University of Texas at Dallas.
•
Kyle C. Kopko, Ph.D., director of Center for Rural Pennsylvania.
