Kail: Pennsylvania Has Everything to Lose with RGGI
12/15/2021
HARRISBURG – In order to protect energy consumers and family-sustaining jobs in the Commonwealth, Rep. Joshua D. Kail (R-Beaver/Washington) announced today that he voted in favor of Senate Concurrent Regulatory Review Resolution No. 1, which disapproves regulations for the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).
Kail released the following statement in support of the legislative process and Pennsylvania taxpayers:
“This issue hits very close to home with me because of the severe negative impact this would have on the great people in my district and across the Commonwealth. RGGI will be picking winners and losers while creating a depressed economy like New York and New Jersey. Pennsylvania has everything to lose.
“Thanks to a strong workforce, Pennsylvania is one of the top energy exporters in the nation, generating lofty and much-needed revenue for the state. RGGI will turn us from being an efficient energy producer to becoming dependent. That flip of a switch will set us back many steps by eliminating many jobs in my area and raising energy costs to unaffordable rates.
“As a legislative body elected by the people, we need to do everything in our power to create an environment that will lead to a pathway of success for Pennsylvanians. RGGI is authoritarianism and the opposite of what is in the best interest of Pennsylvania.
“I am thankful many of my colleagues continue to stand alongside me and fight for taxpayers and jobs.”
The concurrent resolution now heads to the governor.
