Governor’s Budget Proposal Alarming for Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG – Today, Gov. Tom Wolf delivered his budget proposal in his annual address to the General Assembly.
Rep. Ann Flood (R-Northampton) shared her own concerns and issued the following statement:
“The governor is proposing a spending increase of $6.2 billion. This is a 16.6% increase from the previous fiscal year and would increase Pennsylvania’s spending by $17 million per day. With this amount of spending the governor is proposing, the next governor will be left with nothing.”
“Republicans remain focused on wise spending, making the taxpayers of Pennsylvania our priority, and eliminating programs that are not working. Instead, those funds should be going to effective initiatives such as education and investing more into our infrastructure. One of my main concerns is that the spending plan the governor is proposing provides nothing for people in nursing homes, home health care services, or families with children with special needs.”
“My colleagues and I will begin reviewing the governor’s proposal and I am confident that the final state budget will look much different than the one he outlined today, riddled with reckless spending and a drastic shift away from what is best for Pennsylvanians.”
Flood noted that the governor’s address is just the beginning of the annual budget process. The House Appropriations Committee will conduct a series of hearings starting Tuesday, Feb. 15, to examine the details of the governor’s plan and how state departments and agencies are spending their funding.
