Benninghoff Applauds Creation of Investigative Select Committee on Restoring Law and Order
HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) Wednesday applauded final passage of
House Resolution 216, which creates the Select Committee on Restoring Law and Order, an investigative select committee that will recommend remedies—including impeachment and other removal options—and possible policy changes due to local officials refusing to enforce state law in Philadelphia.
“The crisis of crime and violence in Philadelphia is well known. In fact, it is in their daily news. The numbers speak for themselves. They are shocking. They are disturbing. They call for something to be done,” Benninghoff said.
“This investigative Select Committee on Restoring Law and Order is about ensuring our laws are enforced in Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has a keen interest in guaranteeing that the tough-on-crime laws we have enacted to keep Pennsylvanians safe are taken seriously. I look forward to seeing the work product created by this committee and taking actions they recommend to ensure our laws are enforced in Philadelphia and the public is kept safe.”
House Resolution 216 passed the House by a vote of 114 to 86. According to House Rules and the resolution, the committee will be comprised of five members—three from the majority caucus and two from the minority caucus—who, along with the committee chairman, will be appointed by the speaker of the House.
