O’Neal Voices Support for State Budget
7/7/2022
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today issued the following statement in response to the House on Thursday approving a $42.8 billion Fiscal Year 2022-23 state budget:

“I’m pleased to support a fiscally responsible budget that sets us on the path for prosperity. This budget continues the growth of the Rainy Day Fund. Under this plan, the fund will grow to $5 billion. It’s not a question of if it will rain, but when. As history has shown us, there will be a downturn in the economy. We need to plan so that it doesn’t pull us under.

“Additionally, this budget pays off our prior debts, including for Medicaid and the Workers’ Compensation Security Fund. Just like anyone, when money is available it’s time to put your finances in order and eliminate your fiscal liabilities. This will then create a clean slate that will provide the available space when it is necessary to take on new debt.

“About once a decade there is a recession. This budget is a step forward in preparing for that day. We are now on sound fiscal footing, and positioned for any economic slowdown.”
