Criminal Justice Reform Caucus Hosted Special Event to Highlight Reentry Challenges at SCI Camp Hill, Says Delozier
CAMP HILL –In partnership with the Department of Corrections (DOC), the Criminal Justice Reform Caucus (CJRC) jointly hosted a special event today highlighting the challenges individuals face when reentering society from prison. Participants completed a Reentry Simulation Program to experience common life situations, according to caucus co-chair, Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland).
“I am very happy CJRC was able to collaborate with DOC to see this event through. It is critical for legislators to have a clear understanding of the obstacles and challenges newly released individuals face. These simulations allow us to be better policy advocates and leaders, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have helped organize this and participated,” said Delozier. “Thank you to my House and Senate colleagues who took the time to put themselves in another’s shoes.”
The Reentry Simulation Program is structured for participants to assume the identity of a person newly released from prison. Each participant had a different situation, different income, support and/or responsibilities they dealt with while working to stay out of prison. Participants encountered the same challenges faced by many reentrants as they tried to complete obligations while maintaining their day-to-day life.
