Warner Praises Passage of Fiscally Responsible Budget
6/27/2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) today issued the following statement after he joined the majority of his colleagues in the House in passing a $30.18 billion state budget that increases funding for education while protecting Pennsylvania taxpayers.

“As we began this budgeting process, Gov. Tom Wolf proposed a historic tax hike and a plan that would have increased state government spending by 16 percent in one year. That was an unrealistic request for Pennsylvania taxpayers, who needed government to be responsible stewards of their money, get creative with budgeting solutions and live within our means.

“I am proud to say that today I voted in favor of a budget that keeps government spending under control, supports programs that help our most vulnerable citizens, makes historic investments in education, and fairly allocates those education dollars, not sending more of our local tax dollars to Philadelphia. The spending plan also restores several agriculture line-items eliminated by Gov. Wolf.

“And most importantly, we were able to achieve all of this without any new or increased taxes on Pennsylvania’s hard-working citizens.

“I am disappointed that Gov. Wolf is already stating he plans to veto this good, fiscally sound plan, which I firmly believe puts the Commonwealth on a path to growth and prosperity. I hope he reconsiders and fulfills his constitutional obligation to sign an on-time, balanced budget.”

The House-approved budget now goes to the state Senate for approval before going to the governor’s desk.
