Sonney Appointed Chairman of House Education Committee
1/3/2019
HARRISBURG – Earlier today, Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) announced his appointment of Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie) as majority chairman of the Pennsylvania House Education Committee for the 2019-20 Legislative Session.

“This is an exciting opportunity to be on the ground floor of real change in our state’s education system,” said Sonney. “The committee stage is the point at which bills are reviewed, improved and determine if they are ready to go before the full House for consideration. Although Pennsylvania already has an excellent education system, there is certainly room for improvement to ensure all students receive the best possible education.”

The House Education Committee deals with issues pertaining to both basic and higher education.

“The Education Committee is an active one, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to make sure we address the most pressing issues facing both educators and students today,” said Sonney.

Sonney was sworn in to office earlier this week for another two-year term. He was first elected to office in 2004. This will be his first committee chairmanship.
