Rigby Disappointed in Wolf’s Call for Unrealistic Borrowing
HARRISBURG – Following the budget address that Gov. Tom Wolf delivered today to a joint session of the General Assembly, Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) released this statement:
“Residents of the 71st District – for example, who live in Johnstown where the average combined household income is just $24,075 – simply can’t afford significant tax increases, so I am thankful that the governor’s budget proposal does not call for broad-based tax increases.
“However, there are borrowing and transparency issues with his proposal, which includes a severance tax on Marcellus Shale natural gas production to finance $4.5 billion in borrowing for projects across the state.
“Rather than trying to spend money we don’t have, Gov. Tom Wolf should instead learn a hard lesson that families of the 71st District embody each day: stretch the resources you have as far as possible, but never spend money you don’t have.
“I encourage the governor to let go of his wish list and instead focus on the Commonwealth’s most critical programs and services.”
