Gregory Issues Statement on Governor’s 2019-20 Budget Proposal
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair) today issued this statement after the governor presented his $34 billion budget proposal to a joint session of the House and Senate this morning:
“I was encouraged to hear that the governor is calling for no new broad-based taxes and that he is focusing heavily on economic and workforce development. These are issues that resonate with the folks I represent back home.
“He is also proposing to dedicate more money to education and the agriculture industry, with specific funds targeted to the dairy industry. This is all great news.
“However, I am still trying to work out where the money for these ideas is coming from. His proposal is nearly 3 percent higher than the current budget year and I don’t have a clear picture as to how he is affording such an aggressive agenda.
“I look forward to delving deeper into his proposal and learning more about the details as the budget process moves forward. I am hopeful we can work together with the Senate and the governor to craft a budget that will be beneficial to the Commonwealth while keeping spending in check.”
