Brooks Named to Committee Leadership Position
3/22/2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Bob Brooks (R-Westmoreland/Allegheny) today announced that he has been appointed by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) to serve as chairman of the Subcommittee on Cities – Third Class under the Urban Affairs Committee for the 2019-20 Legislative Session.

During the current session, Brooks also serves as a member of the Commerce, Finance, and Local Government committees.

“I am humbled to be named to this role in only my first full term in office,” said Brooks. “I look forward to working with other committee members to develop legislation that helps our municipalities create and maintain safe and vibrant communities. My experiences as the mayor of Murrysville has prepared me well for the work that lies ahead.”

The Urban Affairs Committee is involved in issues affecting the state’s cities including housing; urban redevelopment; economic development; land use planning and zoning; growth management; infrastructure financing; and city services such as police, fire, sewage and water. In addition, the committee has been instrumental in the enactment of laws that give local governments choices and tools to deal with blighted properties. Cities, boroughs and townships now have ways to ensure that responsible resident taxpayers do not lose value in their properties because of blight in the vicinity.

The 54th Legislative District includes the townships of Fawn, West Deer and part of Harrison in Allegheny County; and also in Westmoreland County, the boroughs of Export, Lower Burrell and Murrysville; along with the townships of Allegheny, Upper Burrell and part of Penn.
