Ryan Named to House Finance Panel
HARRISBURG – Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon) has been appointed to the state House Finance Committee, which handles most legislation dealing with tax cuts and revenue enhancements. Ryan was named to the committee to fulfill the two-year term of Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) who has been deployed to the Middle East as part of his service as a captain in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
“I was honored that House Speaker Mike Turzai and Chairman Bernie O’Neill selected me to finish Matt’s term on the committee while he is serving our nation overseas,” Ryan said. “As many of my colleagues are aware, the financial well-being of our Commonwealth is at the top of my agenda and I take this post very seriously.”
Ryan, a CPA who has authored financial rescue plans for corporations and foreign countries, has also written a financial rescue plan for Pennsylvania, and it can be found on his website, RepFrankRyan.com. The plan, which is also embodied in
House Bill 453, calls for some tough but commonsense measures that may be a bit painful at first, but in the long run will enable the state to once again address critical issues facing its citizens without putting taxpayers at risk.
In addition to considering bills related to taxes, the Finance Committee oversees legislation dealing with the operation of the Pennsylvania Lottery, its games and ticket sales. The committee also reviews legislation regarding the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) Program, both of which are funded by the lottery.
Gabler serves as a medical logistics officer in the 28th Infantry Division Headquarters, the oldest division in the United States Army. He will join approximately 500 soldiers from his division in deploying to the Middle East.
