Saccone’s Bill to Better Protect Children and Communities from Sexual Predators Passes Senate
12/13/2017
HARRISBURG – In an effort to safeguard children and communities from online sexual predators, the Senate today passed legislation authored by Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington), which will give the state attorney general and district attorneys the authority to use administrative subpoenas to identify information pertaining to child sex predators transmitting child pornography.

This landmark legislation, act 151, was unanimously enacted by the General Assembly in 2014. It contained a sunset clause declaring that it would expire on Dec. 31, 2017.

“This legislation will make the law permanent,” said Saccone. “This law has been a vital tool for law enforcement and makes their jobs easier. By every measure, this legislation has been highly successful, resulting in hundreds of child sex predators taken off our streets. We’re now calling on the governor to make this law permanent.”

House Bill 561 received support from both Democrats and Republicans, as it passed the Senate unanimously.

“I’d like to thank both House and Senate Democrats and Republicans,” said Saccone. “Because of their willingness to work across the aisle, we are making our communities safer by protecting them from online predators who prey on children.”

The bill now heads to the governor for his signature.
