House Passes Appropriation for University of Pennsylvania Vet School and New Bolton Center
HARRISBURG- Rep. Eric Roe (R-Chester) announced today that the House overwhelmingly passed the annual state appropriation for the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine and its New Bolton Center, 171-14, on Wednesday. The vote on
Senate Bill 325, was passed in concurrence with the Senate.
“The world’s greatest animal hospital, located right in our backyard, will continue to receive its state funding to help with infectious disease research and in-state student tuition,” said Roe. “I am tremendously proud of the New Bolton Center, its talented staff surgeons, its skilled research scientists and the students in which Penn Vet invests. This vote should have taken place months ago, but I am glad the Legislature has finally done the right thing.”
In total, the House approved $650 million in university aid. Along with the University of Pennsylvania’s Vet School, the University of Pittsburgh, Penn State University, Temple University and Lincoln University appropriation bills earned enough votes for adequate funding.
"Students and faculty at these universities should never be held hostage during a budget standoff. Young people and the professors who invest in them should be revered for their efforts to gain successful STEM careers. They hold up their ends of the bargain, and the Legislature must always do the same," Roe said.
Gov. Tom Wolf is expected to sign these appropriations into law.
