– Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) was assigned to serve on four standing House committees during the 2015-16 legislative session. Quigley was assigned to the Consumer Affairs, Education, Finance and Human Services committees.
“To promote economic growth in the Commonwealth, we must offer our youth a strong education,” Quigley said. “I look forward to serving as a member of the Education Committee to ensure that we are best meeting that need and also to help develop a fair funding formula, which is an important priority.”
The committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.
The House Consumer Affairs Committee reviews all legislation that protects the buyer, such as the Credit Card Information Act, Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.
The House Education Committee reviews legislation that establishes rules regarding student aid, higher education in the Commonwealth, basic education, special education, school personnel and libraries.
The House Finance Committee reviews legislation that establishes rules governing state and local tax legislation as well as the Fiscal Code.
The House Human Services Committee deals with legislation regarding drug and alcohol programs as well as mental health. It also governs the departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs, Health and Public Welfare.
