HARRISBURG – Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) will reintroduce in the 2017-18 session his “Don’t be a Scrooge” bill, which would make Christmas trees sold by tree farms exempt from sales tax.
“Christmas trees are one of the few agricultural products not exempt from sales tax. This bill would produce some savings for families who buy Christmas trees at a time when most are counting pennies to afford presents to sit under those trees,” Grove said. “Removing the trees from the list of taxed items also cuts down on work Christmas tree farms put toward managing the books.”
On Monday, Grove’s office circulated a co-sponsorship memo to garner support for the bill. Last year, a similar bill was introduced and received bipartisan support from 23 co-sponsors.
“This bipartisan legislation would establish uniformity in our oft-described confusing tax code,” Grove said. “This bill takes a small step toward modernizing our outdated sales tax code while cutting residents a break around the holidays.”
