Barrar Congratulates Brig. Gen. Anthony Carrelli on Recent Nomination as Pennsylvania’s Adjutant General
HARRISBURG – As majority chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, Rep. Steve Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware) would like to commend Brig. Gen. Anthony Carrelli on his recent nomination as Pennsylvania’s adjutant general.
Carrelli assumed duties as acting adjutant general in January and is awaiting confirmation by the Pennsylvania Senate as the 53rd adjutant general and the commander of the Pennsylvania National Guard. A vote is expected in June.
In this cabinet-level position, he is responsible for command, control and supervision of National Guard units – Army and Air – allocated to the Commonwealth, six state-owned veterans’ homes and programs for Pennsylvania’s 1 million veterans.
“As he has been working as the Commonwealth’s adjutant general for the past six months, Carrelli demonstrated both his leadership and skills necessary to serve all Pennsylvania residents – just as he has in his many previous positions,” Barrar said. “I am thankful that we have such an accomplished and highly decorated candidate for this position, and I encourage the Senate to swiftly confirm his appointment.”
Carrelli graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1985. He completed undergraduate pilot training at Reese Air Force Base, Texas, followed by several flying assignments as an A-10 pilot. He served in active duty Air Force for several years and joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in 1999 following his release from active duty. He has deployed in numerous operations to include Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
He has served as commander of the 111th Fighter Wing, Horsham, and commander of the 171st Air Refueling Wing, Pittsburgh International Airport.
“I look forward to the Senate’s confirmation of Brig. Gen. Carrelli,” Barrar added. “Together, my committee, Carrelli and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs can advocate for the needs of our veterans, military members and their families.”
