Bill Requiring Publicly Funded Recovery Houses to Stock Narcan Advances, Says Heffley
6/13/2016
HARRISBURG – A bill introduced by Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) that would require publicly funded drug recovery houses to stock Narcan, the opioid overdose antidote, passed unanimously today out of the House Human Services Committee.

“Recovery houses should be prepared to handle drug overdoses, and by ensuring that Narcan is available, we can save lives. The opioid epidemic has claimed the lives of far too many Pennsylvanians, and I believe we should do all we can to save people from overdose deaths. This is one of several bills I have introduced to address the opioid problem and I am pleased to see this common sense legislation move forward,” said Heffley.

Law enforcement officers and first responders as well as many individuals living with or around a person addicted to opioids commonly carry this life-saving medication and are trained to administer it.

Heffley’s bill now moves to the full House for consideration.
