Wentling Says Conneaut Lake Park Honored by House Resolution
HARRISBURG – To help promote and recognize the economic impact of Pennsylvania’s amusement and water parks, the House of Representatives this week unanimously adopted
House Resolution 877 designating Friday, June 10, as Amusement Park Day in Pennsylvania.
Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) said that Conneaut Lake Park was among those recognized for its contribution to the state and regional economy.
“I have a photo from the Bessemer Bulletin from I was just a kid of my dad holding me on his shoulders during a picnic at Conneaut Lake Park in the 1970s. The park has been a mainstay of families for generations,” said Wentling. “I am thankful that Conneaut Lake Park opened for a new season on May 31, and I hope it will be offering family fun for many years to come.”
Pennsylvania is home to 18 family theme parks and water parks that entertain more than 12 million visitors annually and support more than 16,000 jobs.
In addition to Conneaut Lake Park, House Resolution 877 honored Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, Conneaut Lake Park, DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, Dutch Wonderland, Great Wolf Lodge, Hersheypark, Kalahari Resort and Convention Center, Kennywood, Knoebels Amusement Resort, Lakemont Park and The Island Waterpark, Sesame Place, Split Rock Resort Indoor Waterpark, and Waldameer Park and Water World.
According to the Conneaut Lake Park website, the park opened “in 1892 as Exposition Park, and survives to this day as a trip back in time. Not a manufactured museum or contrived in any way, Conneaut Lake Park now represents a real alternative to today’s frenetic and agitated lifestyle.”
Wentling, a member of the House Tourism and Recreation Development Committee, said that tourism is one of Pennsylvania’s leading industries, injecting nearly $40 billion annually into the economy and supporting 304,000 Pennsylvania jobs.
