Knoebels Amusement Resort Among Several PA Parks Honored in State House, Masser Says
6/8/2016
HARRISBURG – In an effort to promote and recognize the economic impact of Pennsylvania’s amusement and water parks, Rep. Kurt A. Masser (R-Columbia/Montour/Northumberland) voted in favor of House Resolution 877, which designates Friday, June 10, as Amusement Park Day in Pennsylvania.

Representatives from four Pennsylvania parks, including Knoebels Amusement Resort Owner Dick Knoebel and Front Office Manager Jeannie Reedy, joined members in the House chamber, where they were recognized. This year, Knoebels Amusement Resort celebrates 90 years of being a family-owned and operated amusement park, picnic grove and campground in Elysburg. It is America’s largest free-admission park.

“People from all over the world have traveled to Elysburg to visit Knoebels,” Masser said. “The park is such a valuable asset to our region, and we are lucky to have it so close to home in the 107th District. Knoebels is the place where families, businesses and schools continue to choose to host their annual reunions, picnics and field trips. This park brings so many visitors to our area throughout the year, it provides a lot of jobs for those in the surrounding areas, and it is the place where countless incredible memories have been made over the last 90 years.”

Pennsylvania is home to 18 family theme parks and water parks that entertain more than 12 million visitors annually and support more than 16,000 jobs.

“I believe that it is altogether fitting that the Pennsylvania House of Representatives recognizes the role that Pennsylvania amusement parks play in the economy and the lifestyle of the citizens of Pennsylvania,” Knoebels Amusement Resort President Dick Knoebel said. “This is part of what makes Pennsylvania not only a great place to live, but also play. It is also worth highlighting the value in attracting out-of-state visitors, in which amusement parks also play a major role. Knoebels is honored to be a place of fun and memory making for multi-generational families for 90 years. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors from both near and far, and of all ages, for many years to come.”

In addition to Knoebels Amusement Resort, House Resolution 877 honored Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, Conneaut Lake Park, DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, Dutch Wonderland, Great Wolf Lodge, Hershey Park, Kalahari Resort and Convention Center, Kennywood, Lakemont Park and The Island Waterpark, Sesame Place, Split Rock Resort Indoor Waterpark, and Waldameer Park and Water World.

Tourism is one of Pennsylvania’s leading industries, injecting nearly $40 billion annually into the economy and supporting 304,000 Pennsylvania jobs.
