Metcalfe Slams Two-Faced Attorney General/Gubernatorial Candidate Shapiro for Deceitful Approval of Wolf’s Job-Killing RGGI Scheme
HARRISBURG – House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee Chairman Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) issued the following statement today in response to Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s approval of the governor’s rogue Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) scheme for form and legality:
“In recent weeks, ‘gubernatorial candidate’ Josh Shapiro deceptively issued press statements about not being sure if RGGI is right for Pennsylvania in an attempt to shamefully appease his extremely necessary union voting block.
“Sinking to a new low of hypocrisy, ‘Attorney General’ Josh Shapiro has completed his latest, two-faced political shell game by rubberstamping Wolf’s job-killing, carbon-tax-imposing RGGI scheme.
“More specifically, RGGI’s massive revenue extracting, carbon emissions auction mechanism clearly represents a tax which only the General Assembly may lawfully enact under the Constitution of Pennsylvania.
“Make no mistake, the governor, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and now trade-union-two-timing Josh Shapiro are all fully complicit in assaulting the Constitution, the law and the people of Pennsylvania!
“Fortunately, in Pennsylvania and across America, free market innovations and expanding profit margins remain the most effective measures to deal with natural climate fluctuations—not government orchestrated takeovers of our natural resources that guarantee unaffordable energy costs for everyone.
“For all these reasons, resistance to the Wolf/Shapiro unconstitutional and unlawful RGGI scheme must remain absolute across the Commonwealth.”
