Masser: Plan to Reverse Many of the Governor’s Budget Vetoes Passes House
HARRISBURG – On Wednesday, Rep. Kurt A. Masser (R-Columbia/Montour/Northumberland) voted in favor of
House Bill 1801, a measure which restores many of the budget cuts made by Gov. Tom Wolf last year. This plan does not have any new taxes, but it does include “math that works.”
“This plan we passed today reverses the irresponsible actions of the governor in order to move Pennsylvania forward,” Masser explained. “Before we can begin the next chapter of discussing the 2016-17 budget, we must first finish the one we’re on now. The House passed a full budget, but the governor vetoed portions of it last year, which is why it’s not yet fully completed. I am hopeful, however, that the governor signs this proposal for the good of all Pennsylvanians.”
House Bill 1801 seeks to restore the majority of line items that the governor cut, including a total funding increase of $200 million for education. Additionally, the bill funds major agriculture programs like the Penn State Extension and 4-H Program. Child advocacy centers, critical access hospitals, regional cancer centers and burn centers would also see their state allocations restored.
This budget plan spends $30.031 billion, which equates to a $872.6 million increase over 2014-15, about a 3 percent increase. It spends $238 million less than House Bill 1460, the budget plan which the governor vetoed portions of in December.
