Rader: Wolf Proposes Higher Taxes, No Compromise
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) issued the following statement following Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2016-17 budget address:
“Gov. Wolf’s address this morning was a step in the wrong direction. In addition to the political rhetoric and threats that have become characteristic of this administration, Gov. Wolf lectured the Legislature and failed to provide any details about what was included in his budget proposal.
“The governor’s 2016-17 budget includes a retroactive $2.7 billion tax hike, an increase in the Personal Income Tax and 14 other tax increases. Although our governor may not be in touch with the working families and seniors of Pennsylvania, I am. I will continue to stand up for the taxpayers and represent the values of our district – which means I cannot vote for broad-based tax increases without property tax relief.
“Further, Gov. Wolf spoke about our state’s structural deficit at length. I find it unfathomable that our governor’s solution to fixing Pennsylvania’s structural deficit includes billions of dollars in new spending. As a small business owner, I must tell Gov. Wolf that addressing a deficit by proposing new spending is irrational.
“The spirit of compromise was desperately missing from the governor’s address. Gov. Wolf should be leading by example. Instead, he has created a hostile environment that is not conducive to productivity. I am frustrated by today’s events but remain committed to standing up for Pennsylvania taxpayers and working toward property tax elimination.”
