Benninghoff Responds to Wolf’s Latest Budget, Proposed Tax Increases
HARRISBURG – Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget proposal, which includes $2.7 billion in new taxes and increases the cost of state government by 7.9 percent:
“Year after year, the state budget process has resulted in bigger government and more spending. Gov. Wolf’s latest budget proposal is no different.
“I am disappointed that after the longest budget impasse in state history, which severely impacted our local schools and human service agencies, Gov. Wolf continues to push for a spending plan that Pennsylvanians cannot afford.
“As we formally begin this year’s budget process, I call on my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to not simply turn to higher taxes to solve our budget shortfalls, but to look seriously at where we can tighten our belt and cut wasteful government spending.
“I look forward to working toward a responsible state budget that provides high quality educational opportunities and encourages job growth and a healthy economy, without placing crippling new tax burdens on working Pennsylvanians.”
