Jozwiak Calls Governor’s Budget Proposal Unrealistic
2/9/2016
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks) issued the following statement after Gov. Tom Wolf delivered his annual budget address today in Harrisburg before a joint session of the state House and Senate:

“The governor’s budget proposal is simply unrealistic. Gov. Wolf is proposing massive tax hikes at a time when many senior citizens fear losing their homes due to rising property taxes.

“I plan to work with my colleagues in the Legislature to enact a realistic and fiscally responsible state budget. My hope is that Gov. Wolf will work with us to enact an on-time budget that funds state government without excessively burdening state taxpayers.

“I certainly hope the governor will not cut $3 billion in education funding like he did in December. Our students and schools need the support of their governor as we move forward.

“The governor’s unilateral action to cut $3 billion in education funding also could negatively impact local property owners. By withholding state funds, the governor could force local school districts to shift more of the burden onto local property taxpayers.

“I will give the governor’s budget proposal the consideration it deserves. The Legislature will work to meets its responsibility to deliver a balanced, on-time state budget that meets the needs of the Commonwealth.”
