Rader Reacts to Gov. Wolf’s Line-Item Veto
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) issued the following statement after Gov. Tom Wolf used the line-item veto on nearly $7 billion of the state budget sent to him by the Legislature last week. The governor’s actions on Tuesday did allow for the release of critical emergency funding to schools and human service agencies.
“It is time for the governor to stop with the political games. His use of the line-item veto was simply political posturing. Gov. Wolf had agreed to two-thirds of the line items in the budget we sent him. Yet, he vetoed key funding for agriculture, health services and education. This maneuver was the governor’s way of biding his time while he tries to force massive broad-based tax increases on Pennsylvanians.
“Taxes are already too high in Monroe County and working families and seniors cannot afford the fiscal irresponsibility of Gov. Wolf. We need substantive property tax relief, not higher taxes. The budget sent to the governor last week and the one passed by the House on June 30, did not include broad-based tax increases. I remain focused on bringing this impasse to an end in a responsible and reasonable manner that respects our hard-working taxpayers.”
