Gingrich Disappointed in Wolf’s Refusal to Sign a Sustainable Budget
12/29/2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s line-item veto of the General Assembly’s latest budget compromise that was sent to him for consideration last week:

“I thought the governor was inarticulate and rude during his news conference. Using descriptive words like ‘garbage’ and ‘stupid’ and accusing House Republicans of ‘running off’ was completely disrespectful of our efforts to send him a responsible spending plan.

“I am disappointed in the governor’s refusal to sign a sustainable budget that limits the burden on Pennsylvania taxpayers and increases education funding. Thankfully, our schools and human service organizations will now finally receive emergency funding to keep the doors open. We had requested emergency stopgap funding for the past several months, while the governor stood by and watched exorbitant borrowing, furloughs and closures take place.

“Compromise is a two-way street, but the governor apparently doesn’t know that it must also be based in reality. We look forward to continuing the negotiations toward a long-term budget solution that truly moves Pennsylvania forward.”

The General Assembly sent House Bill 1460 to the governor’s desk on Dec. 24. The $30.26 billion spending plan funds state government’s core functions and supports Pennsylvania students by increasing education funding to the highest levels in the Commonwealth’s history – without the need for massive tax hikes.
