McGinnis: Wolf Continues to Badger and Bully for More Spending
12/29/2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. John McGinnis (R-Blair) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s line-item veto of the General Assembly’s latest budget compromise that was sent to him for consideration last week:

“Gov. Wolf continues to lack a grasp of reality. He wants more state tax dollars for education despite an increase of over $1.5 billion during the Corbett years. After adjusting for inflation, per pupil spending in Pennsylvania is nearly 40 percent higher than 20 years ago with no discernible improvement in student outcomes. We are spending enough on education, but we do need to spend more wisely.

“At least the governor’s line-item veto approach will take many innocent parties out of the line of political fire, something he could have and should have done six months ago. While this budget sets a record for state spending, Gov. Wolf continues to badger and bully for even more spending and his tone is unbefitting the chief executive of the Commonwealth.”

The General Assembly sent House Bill 1460 to the governor’s desk on Dec. 24. The $30.26 billion spending plan funds state government’s core functions and supports Pennsylvania students by increasing education funding to the highest levels in the Commonwealth’s history – without the need for massive tax hikes.
