Godshall Applauds Responsible Budget, Calls on Wolf to Sign
12/24/2015
HARRISBURG – A responsible state budget bill that increases funding to public education and fully supports human services is now on the governor’s desk, and Rep. Robert Godshall (R-Montgomery) is calling on him to sign it immediately.
“This budget impasse has gone on far too long, with some schools and human service programs struggling to keep their doors open,” Godshall said. “The plan passed by the House earlier this month and the Senate Wednesday is a responsible one that lives within our means, just as Pennsylvania families have to do, but it also supports the core functions of government, including education, human service programs, public safety and more.
“The governor should not hesitate to sign this budget,” he added.
House Bill 1460 is a $30.3 billion spending plan that increases preK-12 education by more than $400 million, including:
• $100 million more for Basic Education Funding.
• $50 million more for Ready-to-Learn Block Grants.
• $25 million more for Pre-K Counts and $5 million more for Head Start to help serve approximately 3,500 additional children.
• $30 million more for special education.
• An Accelerated School Construction Investment Program to expedite the disbursement of $ 2.5 billion in bond funds to schools for construction projects.
The bill was sent to the governor on Thursday, Dec. 24. He has 10 days to act on the bill.
