Millard Supports Responsible State Spending Plan
HARRISBURG – Today, Rep. David Millard (R-Berwick) voted in favor of a spending plan that protects taxpayers, while making historic investments in education. The fiscally responsible plan would end the state’s budget impasse without the broad-based tax increases proposed by Gov. Tom Wolf.
Millard issued this statement following the vote:
“The plan approved by the House today is a balanced, responsible budget that funds core government responsibilities and makes historic investments in education, including more than $400 million in additional funding for preK-12 education and an increase of approximately $80 million for higher education, without relying on the massive tax hikes proposed by Gov. Wolf.
“It is a fiscally responsible approach that controls spending and slows the growth of government. This plan protects Pennsylvania’s hard-working citizens from unnecessary taxes, borrowing and wasteful government spending.
“I am hopeful that this prudent spending plan will be a positive step forward in the negotiation process and the ultimate resolution of the state’s impasse. The time is now to put politics aside and get the needed funding out of Harrisburg and back to the communities where it belongs.”
