Benninghoff: Responsible Spending Plan Protects Taxpayers
12/8/2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) joined a majority of his colleagues in the House today voting in favor of a fiscally responsible state spending plan that would end the state’s budget impasse. The prudent budget funds core government responsibilities without relying on any broad-based tax increases or changes.

Benninghoff issued this statement following the vote:

“Today’s vote is positive progress and a step forward to bringing an end to the state’s budget impasse, which has negatively impacted our schools, children and most vulnerable citizens.

“When this process began, Gov. Tom Wolf called for a 16 percent increase in government spending, which would have cost Pennsylvanians nearly $5 billion in new taxes. Now more than 160 days into the fight against higher taxes, the plan approved today better reflects the wants of the public.

“The spending plan invests more than $400 million in additional funding for preK-12 education, while living within our means, controlling government spending and protecting taxpayers from the governor’s massive tax hikes.

“I am hopeful that the Senate and Gov. Wolf will support this responsible proposal and end the impasse. We must move Pennsylvania forward.”
