Marsico Calls on Attorney General Kane to Resign
HARRISBURG – Rep. Ron Marsico (R-Dauphin), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has called on Attorney General Kathleen Kane to resign, after being charged today. In doing so, he released the following statement:
“The charges against Attorney General Kane are serious and alarming. Preserving public trust in the Commonwealth’s top law enforcement officer is vital, and as such, I support any measures the Montgomery County district attorney sees fit to bring justice to this matter.
“Up until now, I have counseled patience, explaining that while impeachment is a constitutional power of the Legislature, I believe impeachment to be a remedy of last resort to be used only in the event that the criminal justice system does not fully restore trust in a public official. However, now that charges have been filed, I believe that Kane should immediately step down in order to preserve the integrity of the Office of Attorney General and the important public safety role it performs.
“I have every confidence that the criminal justice system will work efficiently, giving her a fair opportunity to defend herself against these criminal charges.”
