Hard to Negotiate with an Extremist
8/4/2015
It’s hard to negotiate with a man who takes extremist positions.

Gov. Tom Wolf continues to hold firm to his state budget proposal, which includes nearly $5 billion in tax increases this year and another $8 billion in tax increases next year.

How extreme is the governor’s position? When his proposal was brought up for a vote in the state House, it was unanimously voted down, 0-193. Every member of the governor’s own party voted against his plan.

House and Senate Republicans proceeded to pass a state budget that would have funded the core functions of state government without further burdening Pennsylvania taxpayers. The governor vetoed it.

The major difference between the governor’s plan and the budget he vetoed is his tax increases. The vote on his budget proves those tax increases are too extreme for House members – including his Democrat colleagues – to support.

The governor’s budget plan is more extreme than the most liberal member of the Pennsylvania House.

We gave the governor’s budget plan a chance and it failed. We passed a workable alternative and he vetoed it. I’m ready to enact a state budget for Pennsylvanians, but we need the governor to abandon his extremist positions.
