State Budget Makes Critical Investments While Saving for the Future, Says Wheeland
HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania state Rep. Jeff Wheeland (R-Lycoming) commented Friday on the 2022-23 state budget, remarking that it does the important job of saving for future economic uncertainty while returning taxpayer money to the Commonwealth and investing in our students, families and communities.
“Pennsylvania is in a unique position this year with additional dollars in the bank from the American Rescue Plan. While we are currently in this fortunate position, we must also anticipate future economic downturns. It would be irresponsible to spend all of what we currently have available, and I am proud to say this budget does a great job of balancing the reality of today with the uncertainty of tomorrow,” said Wheeland.
The state budget and its surrounding legislation also includes major policy advancements like tax fairness and simplification for small businesses, funding for election integrity concerns and reduction of taxes levied on job creators. Additionally, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have teamed up to address the issue of Corporate Net Income Tax (CNIT), recognizing how it is a deterrent to our economic growth.
“This year’s budget ensures that we can meet the needs of people all across Pennsylvania,” Wheeland added. “Maintaining safe communities, building access to world-class healthcare, and having reliable infrastructure were all expressed as priorities when crafting this plan. This budget makes those essential investments, while factoring in mind what may come.”
