Knowles: House Approves Fiscally Responsible Budget Plan
HARRISBURG – On Saturday, June 27, Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) voted in favor of the fiscally responsible legislative budget proposal, which would spend $30.18 billion, and includes no tax increases. Knowles made the following statement after the vote:
“Passing a state budget is one of the most important tasks my colleagues and I in the General Assembly have to do each year. My main concern is controlling state spending, and ensuring that every taxpayer dollar is being spent wisely. The proposed budget that Gov. Tom Wolf put forth earlier this year was unreasonable, and that was made evident earlier this month when the House voted down a measure which included his proposed tax increases. My colleagues in the House realize that you can’t take the ‘Santa Claus’ approach when creating a budget, because you can’t give everyone everything they want. We can’t spend more than we have.
“I was proud to vote for the budget proposal that was brought before the House today for multiple reasons, including the fact that it contains no tax increases. The spending plan is a responsible budget that lives within our means while still providing for core state government priorities. This plan includes notable increases to education, including a $100 million increase for basic education funding, and a $20 million increase for special education.
“I urge Gov. Tom Wolf to do the right thing for the people of Pennsylvania, and sign the budget when it comes to his desk.”
The bill has been sent to the Senate for its consideration. Related video comments are available on www.YouTube.com/RepJerryKnowles.
